Components of Literary vs. Commercial Fiction

July 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Publishers Weekly estimates that almost two million people are writing novels a year. Some of these authors have degrees in writing and editing, and know the components of literary and commercial fiction; however, many do not. Consequently, their writing may not meet the standards required by most professional editors, agents, and publishers. Not only do they know the difference, they are able to discern an author’s skill level by reading as little as one page of a manuscript.

What are the components of literary vs. commercial fiction and why do they matter? How are they made evident in writing? Pam Webber, author of the bestselling novel, The Wiregrass, and the recently released novel, Moon Water, will explore these and other writing-related questions on June 9th at John Handley Library from 6:30 -8:00 PM.

Pam will conduct a follow-up session on Publishing and Marketing Fiction in the 21st Century on June 23rd at John Handley Library from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
